  •   Walter Allen Grissom (Uncle Al) 1910 - 2008 

YAKIMA - Allen W. Grissom, 97, of Yakima, died on Friday, January 11, 2008 at Apple Creek Adult Family Home in Yakima.

He was born July 14, 1910 in the Ahtanum Valley to Henry Warren and Emma Christiana (Hansen) Grissom.

Allen married Bessie C. Good on December 15, 1934. Bessie suffered a stroke in April of 1987. She died on July 29, 1989. Allen remarried on September 14, 1991 to Iola Bingham. She later separated and moved to Kennewick in November 2006.

He worked on his cattle and hops farm in the Ahtanum area for most of his life.

Allen loved bowling and started in 1944 at the Basement Lanes under Barnes-Wooden Department Store. He bowled for 58 consecutive years. In 1986 he was inducted into the Yakima Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

He was a fisherman all his life and forty of those years with his good friend and fishing partner, Johnny Reese. He was a member of the Northwest Steelhead and Salmon Council, served two terms as the Yakima Council President, and two years as delegate to the Washington State Sports Council. He also was Director of Ahtanum Irrigation District 1972-1987, serving two terms as president. Allen served on the Marks School Board and on the consolidation board for the Tampico, Marks, Wiley, and Ahtanum schools. He also was part of the new school construction for the Ahtanum Grade School, which opened in January 1951.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Bessie C. Grissom; three brothers, Chester, Everett, and George D. Grissom; two sisters, Pearl Rutherford and Bertha Bates; and foster son, John Agnew.

He is survived by three children, Allen K. Grissom, George H. (Judy) Grissom of Yakima, and Nancy L. (Leigh) Lacey of Kent, WA; eight grandsons, Brian (Kim) Lacey, Scott (Jennifer) Lacey, Patrick (Susan) Grissom, Steven Grissom, Allen W. (Alexis) Grissom II, Thomas A. (Katherine) Grissom, Raymond J. Grissom, and George W. Grissom; six great grandchildren, Tommy, Sarah, Ian, Stella, and Violet Grissom and Tommy Harris; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his estranged wife, Iola.

Our family would like to thank Diep Miller, James Allen, Mary and Jerry Corral and all the caregivers at Apple Creek for the kind and gentle treatment for our father. We know their wonderful care made dad's last 2 1/2 years so much easier. God bless you all.

Visitation will be offered on Friday, January 18, 2008 from 3 PM - 7 PM at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors. The funeral service will be at 10 AM on Saturday, January 19, 2008 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be made in Allen's name to the Community Services for the Blind or to the charity of one's choice in care of Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors, 201 North 2nd Street, Yakima, WA, 98901.

  • William Carl Dehne (Bill) 1921 - 2007

William C. Dehne, 86 of Issaquah, died on December 28, 2007 at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland.

Mr. Dehne was born on November 12, 1921 in Yakima, Washington, the son of Carl and Hazel Dehne.  He was raised in Yakima and graduated from Yakima High School.  In 1939 he moved from Yakima to Seattle.  During World War II he served in the US Army.  He married Lois on September 20, 1946 in Seattle.  The family moved to Bellevue in 1955.  He was a resident of Issaquah for ten years.  He worked for Safeway as a truck driver.  In his leisure time he enjoyed bowling, sightseeing, traveling the country in his RV.

Survivors include three daughters Diana Marie Good, of Bothell, and Madelane Lee Wallace, of Woodinville, Michele Lynn Hendrickson, of Sammamish; three grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Lois in 1991.
